THE ARCTIC FARMER

Four years ago, museum worker and passionate animal lover Kari-Anne Nilsen left her job as a curator on a mountain farm with no road access, electricity or running water and headed north with a small flock of sheep. Her dream, to live a modern life based on an ancient way of farming which was about to be lost. The place, the arctic island of Røst, a tiny farming community two hours from the Norwegian mainland.

Kari-Anne, 35, grew up in a narrow fjord on the Norwegian West coast, and the contrast to her new island life is stark. Out here in the arctic ocean boats are more important than barns, and Kari-Anne has a steep learning curve. Full of ideas, positivity and determination we follow Kari-Anne as she embraces her new life as a farmer fisherwoman immersing herself in the small island community.
