THE STONES AND BRIAN JONES

Nick Broomfield, as a school boy aged 14, by chance met Brian Jones, founder and creative genius of the Rolling Stones, on a train.

Brian was at the height of his success, with the world at his feet, yet just six years later he would be dead. This unauthorised film looks at the relationships and rivalries within the Rolling Stones in those formative years.

It also explores the iconoclastic freedom and exuberance of the 60s, a time of intergenerational conflict and sexual turmoil which reflects on where we are today.

"Broomfield has created the definitive film of the early days of The Rolling Stones, even more crucially he has shown how the Stones became the Stones” FILM STAGE
“The narrative unfolds in an evocative, mesmerising way, and sometimes heartrending interweaving of first hand testimony and rich never seen before archive footage” THE OBSERVER
“A riveting examination, Broomfield has found a uniquely personal angle, unearthing much never seen before archive” THE SPECTATOR
“Much of Broomfield’s absorbing penetrating feature is devoted to a study of Jones as someone achingly aware of his limitations, fans will be stirred by this portrait of a rock legend as a vulnerable young man” FINANCIAL TIMES
